Fair Maiden Trailblazer | Polish Pickup December 2020: Everything is FINE

Are you ready for the Polish Pickup insanity? I definitely am. This is the last Pickup of 2020, and I am so ready for 2021. I can't think of any better way to kill off this awful year than with a beautifully dark shifty shade like this.

(promotional samples ahead)

This amazing shade features the black-to-red pigment of the winter season...plus a sprinkle of holo flakes to give it abit of a twinkle. Right now, this pigment is  H O T. This is the shade for people who, like me, love black nails but want something more fun. I wish I still had long nails, because this would be amazing on some claws. It still looks nice on my wee nubs, but I think a little more length would be smoking hot. It's like sophisticated goth. I am here for the vibe.

The formula is exactly as you would expect from Fair Maiden. It is smooth and even, without pooling or puddling. The base is ever so jellied, so you get a nice peek of the holo flakes in the base. I used two coats here, followed by a layer of Seche Vite. It covered my nail line completely, and I think it still would even if my nails were long.

The inspiration for this polish was Ruth Bader Ginsberg, who passed away just a short time ago. She really was a trailblazer. She had a bachelor's degree from Cornell and a law degree from Columbia, the latter while raising a child with her partner...all in a time when women generally only went to school to get their MRS degree. She spoke Swedish and co-authored a book in Swedish. She was brilliant, unique, and so tough. I could go on and on, but you should just read her Wikipedia page. As a mother to two daughters, she gives me hope for the future.

Beware. There are lowlight photos ahead. To recreate these angles in your own home, turn on one light in a dark room and waggle your fingers slowly. That is pretty much what I do. It is the best way to catch all the shifts!

And because there is no such thing as sunshine here on the Central Coast (though I am happy to have fog after a summer of smoke and ash) I broke out the flash in a dark room to catch the twinkle. It also caught a blue-violet shimmer in the "black" which was pretty sweet.

I really like this polish. There are a few others floating around out there, but I have been a FM fan for years. (Bought my first shades in 2016 at PolishCon!) I might buy myself a second bottle in the Pickup this month.

Details:
  • Inspired by the notorious RBG
  • $1 from each bottle goes to the Malala Fund
  • no cap
  • $12

  1. Beautiful swatch pics! This is my #1 polish for ppu. I love the black to red shift and this one has the added holo flakes which take it up a notch. So glad it’s not capped!!
