What is a nail art challenge without doing something I have never tried before? Go big or go home...right? Well, when I started really thinking about "green + orange + purple + mermaids" I could only think of one thing...Ariel. It had to be. But I wasn't sure which way I wanted to go...so I went the craziest way. I am actually glad I did.
I fully blame Narmai for this. I don't know if I would have attempted something this involved if not for her. In fact, I initially intended to do something completely different...but I have no patience and inspiration struck.
Colors Used
Carpe Noctem Cosmetics Olaf
Crimson Lake Acrylic Paint
Burnt Sienna Acrylic Paint
Emerald Green Acrylic Paint
Cobalt Blue Acrylic Paint
Titanium White Acrylic Paint
Black Acrylic Paint
I only have a small paint set, and I was too lazy to get my craft paints...so the purple here is a hand mixed shade that turned out quite plummy-violet. But its there, by the gods. I think this ticks all the boxes for the challenge in a way that is completely new for me. You might see more hand-painted stuff in the future. It is strangely satisfying and relaxing.
So how did I do on my first attempt at hand-drawn art? Have you used acrylic paints for your nail art before? If so, leave me some tips in the comments below. I welcome all the help I can get.
And then, see what other awesome things people came up with for this collection of colors!

DeleteOmg, these are incredible! So, so pretty and I love the theme! I can't wait to see more freehand from you. You're so talented! Just curious, have you heard of adult coloring books? It's a new trend and I think you'd really love it. It's so relaxing and satisfying!
ReplyDeleteI HAVE! I bought one at Costco. I want to get some nice pens to do it. All I have is some watercolor pencils, and they just aren't cutting it. I'll take any recs for pens you have.
DeleteHave you tried Barnes and Noble? I bought both my coloring book and markers there. The markers came in a set of 10 and are double-ended; one end is a fine marker and the other is a felt tip. I personally prefer the felt-tip end, because the ink comes out more evenly and it's like painting with a paintbrush, and it puts less stress on my hand. Here's the link if you need it: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/home-gift-brush-markers-multi-colored-set-of-12/18056934?ean=9780641997518 Hope I helped!

ReplyDeleteThis turned out amazing! And its very different than what I would have done for the mermaid theme. I think you need to do more free hand and I need to start thinking outside of the box for this challenge.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! Kinda reminds me of the watercolor type princess shirts that I saw at Disneyland last year.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. Girl your freehand mermaid is out of this world! I love that Carpe Noctum Olaf base.
