This is the season of the witch Barbie. Everywhere you turn, you see pink this and pink that. I haven't had a chance to see the movie yet, but as a big Barbie fanatic since the early 1980s, I am absolutely loving the revival of Barbie fever.

Now, before we get started I should tell you that this isn't a swatch. This is a week-old manicure that has been doing work on my hands. It's not perfect and flawless and photo-ready...but it is 100% real and I absolutely adore it. It is neon and sparkly and fun and bright and shimmery...and both polishes were gifted to me by dear friends. 

Ignore my pinky nail. I was toying with the idea of a micro french. I might still do it, since this manicure is in really good shape and the color still sparks tons of joy.

Our normally gloomy summers have broken for the week, and it was time to take some sparkly sunshots. I wish the sun were more reliable, because this really is great lighting for most colors.  Usually it is the only way I can capture the correct shade for any true neon. 

I used my dslr for these, and even dug out my little magnifying lens for the close ups...which of course revealed a tiny bit of fuzz from the sweater I was wearing the day I did my nails. Of course. But this is real life nails, so no editing. Even when it comes to super dry skin and cuticles that need some attention. 

Look at the lack of tipwear! I am so impressed with these polishes. I used my favorite Gelous base and Seche Vite top coat which always work well for me, but after a week I will generally start to have real chips. (editors note: there is one teeeeeny chip on my right hand, but otherwise all my nails look like these) The KBShimmer was a bit on the streaky side, like most creamy neons, but you could only really see it when you really looked thanks to the shimmery blue sparks in the Great Lakes Lacquer. The KBS is also pretty warm-toned, which is not always my favorite thing in neons. But one layer of the GLL brought it to the exact shade I was dreaming of. 

This might be my favorite pink combo. Ever. 

That damnable little fuzz. HOW DARE IT. 

Did you attend the Polish & Beauty Expo in Chicago? If you did, and you grabbed this GLL exclusive I HIGHLY recommend you layer it over some other shades. It is too opaque for a lot of shades, but I cannot imagine a shade of pink with which it will not harmonize. If you don't have this shade, find a sheer shimmery cool pink and layer it over everything you can find.
