Vapid Wax Bourbon & Bad Decisions | Polish Pickup December 2020: Everything is FINE

Vapid Wax has another sumptuous wax melt for the Polish Pickup again this month. The theme is "Everything is Fine" and this softly smoky bourbon scent is just what the doctor ordered to help us close out this dumpster fire of a year.

(promotional samples ahead)

This is described as a "...dumpster fire filled with aged bourbon whiskey, smoky charred wood, while roasting marshmallows lightly drizzled with caramel."  I definitely agree with this description. This boozey wax melt is a parasoy blend that is cafe au lait colored with pretty copper metallic glitters and a hidden rainbow of warm iridescent shimmers. Once melted, it looks just like a pool of glittery bourbon.

Cold Sniff:
When I first popped the clamshell open, I smelled that distinct twang of bourbon. I am not a drinker, but my husband is a huge fan of the stuff so I am pretty familiar with the scent. Underneath the whiskey smell, there is a soft caramel glow and a hint of woodsmoke...but not a whole lot else. There is something about this blend that reminds me faintly of Mudslides from TGIFridays.

Melted:
I popped this in my warmer and let it melt in a closed room for half an hour (check out the melt video below). When I went back in to make my final sniffs the room was filled with a warm, smoked caramel with an edge of the whiskey scent. Any Mudslide smell had disappeared and everything was just cozy. I personally found it a little heavy on the caramel and light on the smoke...but I am not a big fan of caramel. My younger daughter fell in love with it immediately, and I was coerced into giving her the whole clamshell plus whatever was in my warmer. She says is smells snuggly and helps her do school. I think I give it a 3.75/5 stars, but she gives it a 10/5 stars.

no marshmallows were wasted in the making of this blog post.

Final thoughts:
I like this one. I didn't think I would love it, because I avoid caramel smells. They tend to cling to everything for days and I am not a huge fan of lingering smells. If you are looking for something that smells like Fall but has a more mature feel, then I think you will really like this one. If you are a wax blender, I think a pine/balsam scent might be a nice option to mix with this. I think that mix would be a very "putting up the Xmas tree with the family" vibe. My only gripe about this scent is that I wish the charred scent was a little bit heavier, but my scent tastes are generously labeled as "weird".
