Cuticula for Polish Pickup October 2019 | Nail Care Essentials

Every good manicure starts with good nail care. Cuticula is making it easy for us once again by offering some killer basics in this month's Polish Pickup.  We have a sweetly scented duo that is nigh-on guaranteed to give you frighteningly pretty nails and a fresh and fruity nail cream to moisturize and protect your claws hands and nails.

The scent this month is "Grim Grinning Ghosts". It is described as "a complex blend of blood oranges, sweet pineapples, mandarin, a hint of cherry, a dash of effervescence and a hint of vanilla." I would agree with that. I didn't get much vanilla, but it definitely has a fizzy citrusy-sweet scent. I quite liked it, as did my kids. My husband is not a fan.

The inspo for this duo is the urban legend that people bring their loved one's ashes to Disneyland to sprinkle around the park. Please, when I go, take me to the Haunted Mansion and dust me around. The idea of that pleases me greatly.

The Blush Base Coat is actually pretty great. This is actually a bottle I bought myself, due to a last minute mixup with shipping. So for this stuff, I have "put my money where my mouth is". For me it is a great palate cleanser when I can't really decide what I want to wear. Sheer shades like this are the workhorse of the polish world. They give you a natural look, without having to be actually bare. I have noticed that since switching up my nail shape, my nails tend to bend a lot more. It makes me a little uncomfortable so I try to keep something on them at all times for added strength. And it sure is hard to beat something that you can slap on and go. I did use the Limitless topper here (btw, Spearmint Eucalyptus + Grim Grinning Ghosts is a nice combo) because I can't wait for polish to dry. I actually have it on at the time of writing, and it's still chip free after days and days.

The Limitless topper is neat. Just neat. I have used it for stamping and regular polish and I really enjoy it. One thing I really like that gets overlooked is the white/translucent brush. It makes it really easy to see when you have picked up color and allows you to clean the brush before polluting the whole bottle. My Seche Vite has black bristles...and it is the bane of my stamping existence.

I did a quick jelly-sammich manicure with some peppy glitter I had on-hand. It looks like a soft carnival manicure and I kinda dig it. I ended up removing this after and replacing it with the jellied skulls, which is what is currently on my nails.

The other item this month is the Confection Nail Fortifier. I have heard a ton of things about this stuff, but this is my first experience with the glorious goop. It is a light, airy creamy lotion...or lotiony cream. I can't really decide what to call it. I have been using it as a whole-hand lotion and it's pretty sweet thus far. It leaves my hands quenched and comfortable, but not sticky nor greasy. You can take a peek at my B&A...if you dare. Acetone is rough on my nails, but this really seemed to moisturize my poor dry nails.

The scent is Watermelon Slush. It smells, to my nose, like watermelon candy. My youngest wants to bathe in it. It makes me crave watermelon bubblegum. My husband says it smells like a birthday party. He is a square when it comes to smells! The inspo behind the scent is the urban legend surrounding watermelon seeds. Did you know that if you swallow one, an actual watermelon will grow in your belly? My cousin's neighbor's best friend's sister died from it! Honest!
