Baroness X Spektrolitiista | Post-Melt Review

Remember a few weeks ago when I reviewed the Baroness X/Polish Pickup exclusive wax melt? Well it has been a while, and I wanted to give it a proper review. I melted it for a day and a night, and I think I'm ready to share it with you guys!

Baroness X Spektrolitiista | Post-Melt Review

(promotional samples ahead)

I gave a cursory review of this when I posted before the Polish Pickup sale ended. But I wanted to revisit this one after I had a chance to melt it and live with it for a while. I've been browsing about at wax related blogs (there is a fandom for everything) and they either go into excruciating detail, or just give a cursory review upon initial warm-up. I knew that I definitely wanted to be more thorough than that.

On the cold sniff, it has a clean scent, like ocean front laundry. There is a slight hint of smoke, like hot rocks. When I cracked into it, I got a strong sweet smell, almost caramel. I admit I was afriad. I am not a fan of sweet, heavy scents. But I perservered, for science.

After about 10 minutes, I forgot all about the wax. Then I went upstairs and slaved away vacuumed all the floors. I came back down and was greated by the nicest, coziest scent. There was my fresh, ocean front laundry. That tiny hint of hot...but no sweet. I have no idea what happened to it, but I am glad to see it gone.

  • texture: it is much harder than the previous BX I tried, and I like this texture much better. It is firm, but not brittle. I used a plastic butterknife to cut it, and while it did break a little, it was pretty easy to cut. I like tobe able to chop off a small chunk, as most of my warmers are on the smaller side.
  • throw: excellent. I think Baroness X really has her scent balance nailed down. Within an hour, the scent had spread throughout my 1400sqft house. Even with a couple of windows open, the smell is still evident. It isn't heavy though, and it definitely sticks under the "smell with your eyes" threshold that I have noticed more than a few indies tend to fly right passed.
  • cost per ounce: this was a limited edition, so the cost per ounce is not relevant, but generally her prices are $1.25 per ounce.
  • repurchase: ugh I wish I could! Hopefully she will make something similar, because this is a great everyday scent.

Here is the time-lapse of the melt. It melted in a respectable amount of time, though it took a few extra minutes to get those last pesky bits. I love the look of this one as it melts. The shimmers swirl and swim around, and I could watch it forever.

I will definitely be hoarding this one. At least until I can find a dupe!

  5. Sounds lovely! As a total wax newb what happens to the wax? Does it eventually burn through, evaporate?

  6. It's so pretty, all purple and glittery. I'm not part of the wax community, what does smell with your eyes mean?

  9. I wish wax could have worked with us. I'm not sure I'd have been a fan of a laundry scent, though.
