Night Owl Lacquer | Light & Bright Neon Creams

Night Owl Lacquer is a shiny new-to-me brand. And of course, I had to try one of the hardest things to get right (in my opinion): neons. They are so so good when done right, but ohsobad if they aren't flawless. I was full of excitement and trepidation when I cracked into these blinding bottles.

We are going to do things a bit differently today. These six shades were a delight to swatch, especially when you are old like me and remember the days of awful neons that needed four coats over white and still dried matte. So instead of repeating myself for each shade, I'm gonna give you the tl;dr ahead of time. You can read once, then just enjoy the shinies. Here are the highlights:

• neons are hard. I ended up letting my skin look weirdly colored so I could get closer to reality for the polish. I am not orange, I promise.
• the formula on these were all consistently great. Super easy and opaque on the nail, undie free, and completely in line with what you think a cream should be. 
• each shade only needed two coats for full, perfect opacity. I topped each one with a layer of Seche Vite, but they do dry fairly glossy on their own.
• I tested the water marbling out, a little bit, and they behaved well in the water. I am also told they stamp. I have yet to personally verify that.

Would you believe that I, of all people, don't have UV shots of these swatches? I know. I have no defense, but plenty of excuses. First, I tried to take the pictures without a tripod...and that worked well. Oh wait, no it didn't. It looked like a hyper-active toddler was jumping on my arm while I snapped pictures with my eyes closed. So I resolved to break out the old tripod...which is currently MIA. (hooray moving). I had to order another one, praise be to Amazon Prime. Then my black light battery was dead...ugh. I am jinxed, yall.

But I still had my initial nail wheel!

And of course, the bottles.

So what do you think? Is there room in your heart for more neon? Of course there is, who am I kidding? Neon is the only redeeming quality of summertime. That and Otter Pops.
