I Take It Back: Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water

A long time ago, on a blog far, far away...I posted a lukewarm review of the Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water. I wasn't super familiar with spa/micellar waters, so I wasn't at all sure what I was doing. In my continuing fight against the beauty product clutter, I decided to try and make it work...if only to use it all up. And you know what? I was totally wrong.

Koh Gen Do: A Second Look by Bedlam Beauty

I tried this for about a week before I wrote the first review. At first I thought maybe I was just dumb, but eventually I got angry with this product because it obviously wasn't working...it definitely, absolutely, totally could not be user error.

poor sylvester

So I threw it into a drawer and forgot about it, occasionally grumbling at it whenever I had to shuffle it into another drawer. And there it sat for months and months. Forgotten. Unloved.

For some reason, I broke it back out. I think I had run out of my "non oily/touch up" remover, and I decided to give this a try. It was actually working well for tidying up stray liner and renegade mascara. I found that it was perfectly serviceable on a cotton swab...and I started to wonder if maybemaybe I had been wrong originally? Is that even possible?

it is probably aliens, man

So I started using it to remove my eye makeup at night. I saturated two cotton rounds, and held them/wiggled them on my eyes for about ten seconds. Then I just slowly, and in a downward motion, slid the cotton pads away. And my waterproof liner, eyeshadow, and mascara was all gone. No matter if what brand or type I used...my eyes were clean. Not irritated and clean. Well shit.

ok...maybe a little too clean...

I still don't feel like this stuff removes foundation, but I generally don't use it for that. I do love it now for cleaning up and removing eye makeup. In fact, I am nearly done with my original little bottle. I won't be repurchasing this brand again, because I am a cheap bastard.

Since writing the original review, several American drugstore brands have come out with spa/micellar water products. I am itching to try these out...I am a magpie for all things shiny and new. I am specifically looking at the Simple brand next, though I'd love to get my hands on the Garnier if my UK pal can spy it! Do you have a favorite brand that I should try? Let me know below!

  1. Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water! I replaced my beloved Bioderma Sensibio with the Garnier one (because it was half the cost and easy to find) and while I still love the Bioderma formula a bit more, the Garnier one works just fine and does remove eye makeup well.

    1. I did try both the Simple and the Garnier. I DEFINITELY prefer the Garnier.
