I live in the strangest place. We have all sorts of "fancy", tourist-trapping things...but then we lack basic money-traps like In-an-Out Burger (for noooow) and major stores. Until now. Towards the end of July, we actually had a real Sephora open up! Hooray! Of course, this is going to cause me much pain...especially since I am attempting a no-buy...which I broke. For Anna.
Nars is one of those brands...I feel so posh and grown-up when I wear it. But, for me, it has also been one of those brands that seems to never quite work for me. I always seem to choose the products that aren't quite right for me. (Though I do have a shadow pencil and I love it). After reading 50,000,000 glowing reviews, I decided that I would at least swatch them once. Maybe they will suck and I won't want a THIRTY-TWO DOLLAR LIPSTICK.
So many reviews seem to rave and cheer about these lipsticks that I thought maybe they are awesome...and then I read a review somewhere saying that Anna and one of the Life's Entropy Cosmos lipsticks were really close in color. I had picked up a tiny sampler of the Cosmos collection last year, and I loved Supernova but realized it too late to buy the full size. So I was even more intrigued by these insanely priced lipsticks. But there was no way I was going to buy one from the website. I needed to touch one, smell one, swatch one.
And then Sephora came to Monterey. Oh no...and yes. My heart soared and my wallet screamed.
It is the most delightfully smooth, pigmented, ridiculously over-priced lipstick ever. I swatched it against the inside of my wrist in two light strokes...and wow. This is an amazing color. Its a cool, slightly plummy rose shade...definitely a daily wear sort of color. In the swatch below, it looks quite warm, and I was slightly worried. But when I applied this swatch, it left a slightly petal pink stain behind that I found very encouraging. I hoped that this would be the case for my lips.
On my lips, it read a lot cooler/more purple...at least to me. It reminds me a lot of a few colors I already have, but formula-wise it is much more creamy and decadent feeling than anything I can compare it to thus far...except for Supernova. I used two swipes, again, straight from the bullet without any liner/primer/fussing.
Because no post that includes my face is complete without a little fuckery...
What is your guilty makeup indulgence? Mine is definitely lipstick. Even when I go weeks and weeks without wearing makeup, I will still randomly throw on a bright lipstick while I am doing housewife things. Somehow, it just makes my day all the better.
