Savvy Naturalista Mani Mochi Scrubs

(promotional samples ahead)

The best part of this time of year is the smells. I love spicy cinnamons and crisp apples and warm toasty things...just floating in the air around me. I even venture into the smelly skin care (gasp I know!) this time of year. My first steps this year are the Mani Mochis from Savvy Naturalista.

Mani Mochi from Savvy Naturalista

I received three different mani mochis to test out: Cake Batter Face, Love Shack, and Cinnamon Pumpkin Pie scents. I knew these weren't going to be your average hand scrubs going in, but I was not prepared for the uniqueness of them. I am generally an oil+sugar sort...but if I don't get the ratio just so then I end up with slimy slick hands and gunk under my nails. These wee little lumps of magic are less oil and more balmy...and you know I'm all about the balm these days.

The Packaging
They came wrapped in all of the bubble wrap. I was worried that this meant that they were going to be crumbly, but they were pretty solid and all arrived intact. Each one came in its own bag with a little label...which is good because I am bad with names.

Reading the "how to use" portion of the shop, it seems like these would work regardless of the crumbling...which makes me happy because things tend to get destroyed around these parts. I like things that will work the same regardless of their form.

Sizing
They are pretty generously sized, considering you need about a penny's size chunk per use. The Great pumpkin one is the biggest in diameter, but they are all about the same 1/2 inch thickness. The size is really not that important because a little chunk goes such a long way.

Cake Batter Face
This one is a vanilla + cake scent, and I wanted to eat it. So did the wee humans in my house, though the cat was less than impressed. I broke off a wee chunk to try, and it was great for helping to soothe and repair my skin and nails after a rather epic swatching session. I am definitely going to make these mani mochis part of my whole swatching routine.

Love Shack
If you aren't singing a certain song right now, we can't be friends. That is just a fact. The scent here is a gently tropical blend of coconut, pineapple, banana, and a hint of citrus. It is still packed with skin-loving butters and clays, so you don't have to worry about the citrus bugging your skin. I haven't tried this one yet, as I am trying to finish off the other two before I crack into this sucker. You need so very little product with these that two or three of these would last a normal person at least a month.

Cinnamon Pumpkin Pie (limited edition scent)
This one is obviously my favorite. I mean...its a pumpkin! Look at his happy wee face! This one is a seasonally appropriate blend of cinnamon, clove, and maple...all stuffed together and grinning up at you from a palm-sized chunk of sugar, oil, and clay.

I used this one three times in one sitting. I am always leery of hand scrubs because a lot of brands don't understand the balance between physical scrubbing strength and dissolution of the abrasive for the sake of comfort. (Mr Clean doesn't make hand scrubs...but there are some products that I do wonder if he is a consultant...) I decided to take one for the team and see how many times I could use this before my skin started crying. I used it thoroughly three times, back to back. My hands were still ok...though I might have been a bit aggressive on my nails. Oh well, it is less abrasive than buffing.

Then scent is gentle, but present. It clings lightly to the skin for a few hours afterwards, but it is very much in the background...which is how I like it. It definitely smells like Falltober

Want to see how easily these things really melt with water? Check out this wee video I made. Special guest appearance by the ever-fabulous Elly: Master of the Bathroom Sink.

Instructions for use (from the website)
Cut your mani scrubs into 2-3  equally sized pieces and then decide which one you wish to use on your hands first. After you have gotten your hands wet under the running water, gently rub the mani mochi all over your hands and watch it smear into a wonderful smooth paste all over hands. Once you have exfoliated your hands rinse well, dry and add a light hand cream.

After three (back-to-back) uses, but without any lotion at all. Yup. They are this hydrating on their own, but for comforts sake you will want to use a wee bit of your regular cream afterwards.

lotion-free afterwards!

I am excited to use these as a foot scrub and a hand scrub. I think that these will be amazing post swatching to really get all the glitters and acetone off my skin without me having to use my super scrubby nail brush. In fact, I plan on keeping these next to my kitchen sink so I can use them on the regular.  These are so delightful after a weekend of power swatching. I feel like they undo all the horror that acetone does to my skin. I'm going to buy a wee little dish and keep these by my sink, for sure. The pumpkin one was also really handy for scrubbing permanent marker off tiny hands...

So what do you think? Are you in the market to try something new? These will be available October 9th at noon eastern, and considering that even the big sucker is less than $2...I think you should grab at least one or two.

  1. I couldn't use the pumpkin, the thought of damaging the shape kills me haha!

  2. I like to use scrubs, especially while swatching shimmer polishes, but I'm not a fan of digging in pots. These sound perfect, although I don't know if I have the heart to break apart that adorable pumpkin. Haha!

    1. Bombs are good for a relaxing evening, but these scrubs are handy for recharging your nails and skin during and after a swatchfest.

  13. I'm with you- Fall scents are the best! And I'm so glad to hear about the careful packaging. It's so sad to see something come broken, and too easy with delicate bath products. Especially when my mail carrier is determined to cram everything into a letter when when there's acres of porch available.
