Look of the Day: After a Root Canal

Part of being an adult is doing stuff that sucks. I am currently doing a lot of stuff that sucks...but it needs doing. In between the misery, I have to look like a human...so I decided to do a little b&a. It has been nearly a year since I've posted my face...and it is probably time I get back to that.

Root canals are no fun. But you don't have to look like death.

I'm trying to do more of that "adult" nonsense, and currently that means taking better care of my teeth. It was way longer than I care to admit since my last dental check-up, and I am definitely paying for it. This particular payment was in the form of a sorta-emergent root canal! Less than 24 hours before the Peanut's preschool graduation ceremony. I don't want her to look back at the pictures and think "holy shit mom."

Before
This is me, sans anything other than sunscreen. You can see my right cheek is a little poofy and rosy. It didn't hurt much, but it was definitely swollen. I joked that it was like I got botox...but only in one side of my face as my smile lines were all gone. I guess even the worst things have silver linings, right?

root canals are rough on the face. And the soul.

After
I decided to test out a new foundation, because I obviously make the best decisions. I had picked up a sample of the (original?) MakeUp ForEver HD foundation in the shade 115 while I was in St. Louis last month. Apparently...it has been reformulated since then, of course. Which sucks ass, because I think I finally found a solid shade match.

Product List
Nyx Studio Perfect Primer in Anti-Redness (green)
MUFE HD foundation in 115 (which, wtf is now discontinued?)
Nyx Blush in Taupe
Too Faced Shadow Insurance eye primer
Coastal Scents Revealed Palette
Covergirl Clump Crusher waterproof mascara in black
Nyx Tinted Brow Mascara in Black/Brown Black
Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien

side-by-side. Thank god for makeup.

My Process
I always start with my eyes, because I am messy and practical...especially when I am crunched for time. I start by priming my eyes, and then laying a nude shade across my entire lid with a Mac 217 brush. Then I kinda took a buff/taupe shade (with the same brush because lazy) through my crease, under the inner corner of my brow, and under my lower lash line. Then, with a random detail brush, I threw a a darker color on the outer corner, a shimmer on the inner, and the black smushed into my lashes. It was pretty lazy and sloppy. I then slapped some mascara on because I can't find my eyelash curler.

I tidied up the fallout and primed my skin with the Nyx primer. Using a clean finger, I made dots with the MUFE foundation across my face and blended them out with a Real Techniques sponge (because I can't find my beauty blender either). I think I finally found a match...which is a shame because that line appears to have reformulated...dammit. Anyway, I then used...some brush to apply the Nyx Taupe to where the hollows of my cheeks are supposed to be and around my hairline in an effort to hide the fact that my face looks like I've been lightly slapped for several hours. Then I threw on some Nars Rikugien on my lips from the Sephora birthday gift and quickly pulled some brow mascara through my brows...because I always forget. This all took me a good twenty-five minutes.

And then I put on sunglasses...

outtakes are always fun.

my cat has a thing for leather.

I wonder about the critters in my house...

  5. I *loathe* having to adult. Adulting is hard, yo! Seriously, though, you don't look awful to me - you look pretty great. P.S. Sunglasses & a good lippie always make you look glamorous, just don't take off the sunglasses. LOL!

    1. yeah, I am all about that sunglass life...especially at those preschool functions. All the other parents are obnoxious...so sunglasses allow me to give them the side eye with impunity.
