A million and a half years ago, I picked up a black & white glitter polish in a swap with a young lady on Reddit. I had never seen a glitter quite like this, and I knew I needed it. Who knew that a few years later I would be here posting it again? Let's take a wee gander at the polish that started it all...
I got this back before I knew what indies really were. I was never especially brand-loyal (and for the most part I'm still not), so I really wasn't ready for the intimate world of indies. But I loved this fat little bottle at first swipe, even though I had no idea about the brand or the lovely lady behind it. I used it several times and then stashed it away.

I had no idea that a few short years later I would be sitting here staring at an indie collection that had overtaken my mainstream hoard. I could never have guessed that I would have made such amazing and kick-ass friends (or met a few heinous bitches...win some, lose some) and I will be eternally grateful to this tiny little bottle of glittery goo for pretty much changing my life. And, of course, leading me down the path to all of the shiny things.
I am not the only one waxing nostalgic today! Check out these other posts by some amazing people and see the shade that started it all for them!
Dude, I'm right here. No need to call me a heinous bitch. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this polish a whole lot. The first indie I looked at (didn't buy though) was a black and white glitter topper. A Lynderella, which is why I didn't buy it. At that point I couldn't fathom paying that much for a polish. (Oh the things I've seen since.)
haha you're my favorite heinous bitch. Fo'sho.
DeleteLove black and white glitter polishes! The second indie I ever owned was a similar polish! Haha
ReplyDeleteI think there was a whole time where everyone made a b&w glitter. I think I have at least 4...all different.
DeleteI have this one! I think I discovered Pretty & Polished through my twitter buddies.
ReplyDeletehaha thats awesome. It is still great, I didn't have to thin it at all.
DeleteI think one of my first indies was Ninja Polish Sticks'n'Stones which is yet another black and white glitter. I love the combo and I have grabbed more since then!
ReplyDeletesame here :D
DeleteMy first indie was a Pretty & Polished as well! It was Jawbreaker!
ReplyDeleteOh! That one <3
DeleteI can't believe I still haven't tried Pretty and Polished :P Love this base color/ glitter combination!
ReplyDeleteoh you should. Its only gotten better.
DeleteAwwww...I love the idea of the "polish that changed your/my/someone's life!" The community is the best part of indies (besides the polish, of course), and its funny how just one polish avalanches into the whole thing. I like the red-mauve base that you did under the glitter!
ReplyDeleteI don't even mind the assholes I've encountered along the way, though I think if I were younger it might be harder to hang. It is really a great community, overall.
DeleteIf I could only wear one glitter forever, it would be a black and white one. This is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteEven more than silver? Or Neon? Oh man...
DeleteLove! Look at that label, so long ago ;)
ReplyDeleteI know!
DeletePretty & Polished was among my first indie brands! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI think I lucked out with p&p being my first.
DeleteWhat a great first indie! I remember being blown away when I first saw a black and white glitter topper. How far that rabbit hole goes.....
ReplyDeleteisnt it amazing to look back?
DeleteAaah, I remember the black & white glitter rage <3 can't even believe how many variations have been done since!
ReplyDeleteI have quite a few bottles now, not all of them indie.
DeleteMy first indie was Laquerlicious Christmas Snowfall from 2012 (now Polish 'M). I wear it once a year, for as long as it'll stay on. I bought the reformulated one last year, but it just doesn't have the same magical goodness since it's so much more opaque :( . My indie hoard isn't bigger than my mainstream... yet. I rarely buy anything but indie anymore so it's only a matter of time :)
ReplyDeleteawww. I should break this one out more often.
DeleteI love this! I think these black-and-white glitter toppers are one of the best inventions ever, they make everything look special! My first indie was Delush Polish "Forever Young".
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. B&W is perfect for every occasion.
DeleteForever Young is such a lovely polish!
You can never go wrong with a black & white glitter! I think every indie who started out in the beginning had their own version. This one is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI feel like it is practically a gateway drug
DeleteBlack and white glitter is such a classic combo. You can use it for any occasion
ReplyDeleteyou just can...its perfect.
DeleteI hope I fall in the heinous bitch category...mostly! Black and white glitter is such a classic first indie! Lynnderella Connect the Dots was probably in my second indie order ever. ;)
ReplyDeleteof course you do. I'm glad you identified yourself so I don't have to...
DeleteI oogled that lynderella stuff, but then the whole dust-up occurred and I decided that it wasn't worth the trouble.
