My dear friend Annie from Beauty Junk Trunk went to IMATS NY this year. Knowing how I feel about nail polish, she kept her eyes peeled for anything polished related...and happily she spied the Sugarpill display of glittery goodness...and grabbed me a bottle.
Celestia is a super-glitter. It has champagne gold and rose colored hexes and shifty green/gold microglitters all in a shimmery gold base. It needed two medium coats for opacity (though I would recommend three thin coats just to make the glitter behave. It did dry smoothly, though if you are a fan of the glassy look you might want two layers of topper.
It reminds me a lot of the Maybelline Brocades from...last year, I think (edit, yes. 2013/2014) If you follow that link, it will take you back to my horrible swatch of Lavishly Lilac. That is a more focused/less glitterbomb purple version of this stuff. I remember enjoying that shade, as well as Silver Swank...though they are both on my swap board at the moment.
In an effort to thwart the reflective quality of this shade, I tried diffusing my lights completely. All that did was mute the details. This polish is like gilt mirrors.
I persevered. I added a matte coat (my wet 'n' wild one) and prayed. Well...it still looks pretty, but it becomes a lot more...bleached looking? Taking the gloss off seems to mute the green iridescent shimmer of the base completely. I guess thats cool, because it really does turn this into almost a whole new shade. I am always in favor of two-for-one polishes.
So what is the verdict? I think this is the first polish collection from Sugarpill. I am not sure what I was expecting...something louder maybe? Obviously glittery...but more color. I am quite bummed that there isn't one neon in the bunch. But the bottles are cute, and the quality is there...maybe the future will be louder?
