Pretty & Polished Beauty Box for April 2015: The Polishes

Ever since I killed off Ipsy back in June 2014, I've been on the hunt for something similar...but with less repetition. I tried a Rainbow Honey bag, and while the price was right...the polishes just weren't me. I read blogs, investigated, and lamented my lack of monthly surprise...until my friend Dani of From Polish With Love mentioned that Pretty & Polished had a monthly bag too...it was a little higher priced than Ipsy at $22, but it was a much better bargain.

The Pretty & Polished mystery box came with a small sample of cuticle butter (in Lychee Red Tea scent...and I actually like it), some nail art supplies, and three full sized polishes...one of them a thermal. It also came with a coupon code for another bottle of polish. I definitely feel like this was a good use of my $22. It gave me a few different things to try, and a good feel for the brand as a whole. I dunno if I can do this monthly, but I think every few months this might make a nice treat for myself.

April Showers
April Showers is a sky blue-to-white thermal jelly/cream polish that is superpacked with glitters. I have only ever tried one thermal, so this was a new experience for me. I used three thin coats for the pictures below, and it behaved well. The weather was a bit weird here when I applied this the first time, and it got a little gloopy on me. Apparently, nail polish does not approve of high humidity and heat. Who knew? Also, I think I love thermals. I am a forgetful bastard, and there is nothing like waking up in the morning to white fingernails and forgetting that the polish was a thermal. Confusion before coffee is guaranteed.

Dress Me Up
This one is a soft royal purple jelly packed with hexes in multiple shades. I think this one is my favorite of the trio I got. (I mean, thermal is awesome, but I think I like this color best) It also needed three coats, but it was a bit easier to apply since the weather was settling down here. I really do like the juxtaposition of the baby blue and the purple. It reminds me of a purple marble from far away...which of course should totally be a thing. Stupid nature.

Easter Egg On My Face
This last one has so much glitter in it, my head explodes. It is more glitter than polish, and that is just alright with me. But I admit that it isn't my favorite polish of the bunch. It is a lovely white jelly/cream base that is super packed with pastel glitters of all sizes. My kids adore it, but I doubt they could sit through the three coats needed to achieve the final look shown below. I may swap this one at some point in the future...its just too delicate for me to wear on multiple occasions. But for April, it is completely perfect.

I know it seems like I am posting these swatches waaaaaaay late, but I didn't want to spoil the fun for any latecomers. The tl;dr is that I loved this box, though I can't afford to buy it each month. I think I will make a nice little quarterly treat though.

  6. These are beautiful! I've been on the fence about getting the P&P box since it is a little more expensive (although obviously worth it), but it definitely would be a great little treat from time to time!
