I have some sweet, sweet Sweet Heart Polish to share today. I am feeling bloggerly, and Polish Pickup is always there with something to talk about
The theme this month is 1980s, which...if I am honest...I was not excited for. The 80s, for me, is avocado green, weird denim, and asbestos dolls. But I am happy to say that I am blown away by the variety from our makers this month. No, really. Some people have really gone for it with their inspirations, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of "phoned in" items. There are both neon crazy things and some really restrained, beautiful things. It's all pretty rad.
This month, I have a single shade from Sweet Heart Polish. It is a neutral gray cream-jelly filled with multi-sized hexes in pinks, white and black. I love how the bottle itself works with the polish. It iscoordinated and purposeful. Cassandra was inspired by Pretty in Pink, which is a classic 80s movie. I think I watched it at a sleepover in the 90s for the first time, but it definitely informed my friends and my fashion choices for a few months.

I used two coats, plus a layer of Seche Vite for this pictures. It dried fairly smooth, though if you like that glassy finish I would slap on a top coat sammich. I wore this for about a week, and I got a lot of compliments on it. For lacquerheads, it is a very classic formulation...and it is done so well. You get the depth and sheerness of the base that lets the glitters shine through, but it is opaque enough to not have four thousand coats.

I wasn't excited for the 80s theme either. I barely remember any of it, mostly the Madonna contest on mtv when I was 6? 7? and they played that song all day with the different videos people made for it. And Salt N Pepa a couple years later when I moved onto an army base when my dad got deployed out of the US. It was the first music I had ever heard like it. Still not my kind of music, but those women will always have a special place in my childhood memories.
ReplyDeleteits funny how the memory works. There are a lot of things from the 80s that I would normally roll my eyes at...but instead they remind me of other things.
