Octopus Party Nail Lacquer Fall 2016 | Part One

Octopus Party Nail Lacquer has returned to us again. It's like Christmas, but with more puns. And, as always, Dave has broken it into two parts. Let's take a peek at Part One!

Octopus Party Nail Lacquer Fall 2016 | Part One

(promotional samples ahead)
fyi: all pictures are taken under daylight spectrum bulbs or using flash. I love you guys, but the world is on fire right now and I'm not breathing that in for all the holo on the internet.

Octopus Party Nail Lacquer Fall 2016 | Part One

Monster
This is a cool-leaning wine ultra linear holo with tiny violet flakes and holo glitter. It might be my favorite of this quartet. I am not a drinker, but if I might consider it if wine looked like this. Even though there is a lot going on here, it still applies silky as smooth. I used two coats and a layer of Seche Vite for these pictures, but I bet a heavier hand could do one coat with this sucker.

Red Blood Sells
We had the cool, now here is the warm. This is a sophisticated oxblood holo with a delicate sprinkling of flakes. I can't quite tell if the flakes are gold and the formula is slightly jellied, or if they are pinky-red and the formula is more creamy. You'll have to bring this one home and let me know. Like Monster, it applied dreamily and I only needed two coats plus a layer of Seche Vite for these pictures. Unlike Monster, I don't think you should try and make this a one coater.

Swamped
This is a warm blackened olive holo. I swear it has a slight simmer of bronze in there too...but it might be the smoke-tinted sunlight pouring into my house. Even though greens don't love me, I do love them. This is the perfect olive for fall...but brought to a much more wearable level. It applied beautifully in two coats, but I might try and see if I could do a thicker single coat for this one too.

The Midas Crutch over China Glaze Liquid Leather
Oh toppers, how unloved are you? Especially by me. I see them and think "Oh shiny!" and then promptly move along. I'm so terribly lazy, guys...so you know that there has to be something special in a topper for me to stop and gaze for a bit. And wouldn't you know, here it is! This is a shimmering gold holo topper, like orange juice or American lager but with holo and sparkle. I can't even. I used one coat on top of black (at Dave's behest) for these pictures below.

I don't 100% love it over black, if I am perfectly honest. But I couldn't choose a single color to layer it over...so I went to the wheel with every cream that was sitting on my desk (don't judge me). I think my favorite is over the corals (the bottom one next to the mint/my thumb is Baroness X Malibu Melon and the one on the top-ish right is Digital Nails Melonade). But it does look classic and stunning over the navy at the top (Vapid Rock the Boat).

Comments

  1. I never know what color to layer toppers over either and my natural instinct is to reach for black. I love that you showed it over other colors to give a real sense of what it will look like. I dont think I can pick a favorite out of the other three because Im really into the darker colors right now and each one I see is my new favorite.

  8. You mean, not everybody keeps their nail polish out on their desk? I must have like a hundred bottles sitting out. In the order I'm going to use them of course! I love this collection, but I'm a little disappointed the gold is only a topper. I would have to wear it over yellow. Gorgeous swatches!
