Vintage Polish: Wet 'n' Wild Red Pearl

The term "vintage" is a bit hard for me to swallow here. I remember buying these polishes as a teenager at Long's Drug. Mind you, that was nearly twenty years ago now...and most of the music I listened to back then is now on classic rock stations...dammit.
But nostalgia is a helluva drug. A lovely friend of mine offered to sell me a small horde for dirt cheap, and of course I couldn't pass it up. And I'd be a liar if I didn't tell you that I have been trolling eBay for others.

This bottle doesn't have the number sticker on the top, and since it isn't a Fantasy Maker, it doesn't have the name on the front label. But I remember buying this color. It was my "respectable" holiday color. This was the color that every little girl wore and felt like a lady while wearing it. It is chock-full of feels for me.

I am not sure how old this bottle is, but the formula was definitely a tricky one. It had semi-congealed inside the bottle and had formed a quasi-sentient mass around the brush. Ten generous drops of thinner and some vigorous shaking later, and it was back to the original consistency. I only needed two coats for complete coverage, though I think next time I'd like to sponge on the last layer because brush strokes are a serious issue.

What is the verdict? Do you get all feely about polish from the past? I definitely feel nostalgia and regret when I look at this polish, because I am kicking myself for tossing out my perfectly good-but-old polish back before the internet polish community became a thing. So to commemorate my new-found addiction, I will be sharing an old polish on the last Friday of every month until I run out of money and space. I am sure that one of those will happen eventually.

  2. Do you know how much polish I threw away two years ago when I started collecting indies? About 40 bottles. All of it "vintage" polish like this one. I'm an idiot.

    1. Ugh. Dude. I used to purge every few months...I was such a fool. The stuff I had, I could have sold it for enough to buy all the htf enchanted polishes twice over...

  3. Yup. Exactly what my mom let me wear each Christmas. I'm pretty sure I have a bottle of this stashed somewhere.

  4. I'm kicking myself for the polish I threw away years ago because they "went bad" (damn you, whichever beauty magazine convinced me they'd only last a couple years at most!!!) The only polish I rebought that I had ages ago and tossed was OPI's Wyatt Earple Purple because it shares my son's name.

  5. The only older polish I truly regret throwing away was Sally Hansen Nail Prisms Pink Rose Diamond. It's easy enough to find these online BUT go freaking figure Pink Rose Diamond had two formulas, the only one from that line that I know of, and of course I had the earlier very light almost nude pink color which is impossible to find. I still don't know why I talked myself into tossing it except that the bottle was less than half full and it was old...but it still worked fine! :(

  7. I had so many of these from the mid-90s! I don't think any got tossed, but I ruined some from the mid-80s by putting remover in them in the mid-90s, back before you could get real polish thinner. Doh! The only problem I've found with my mid-90s polishes is that they never dry hard, so sheet marks. It got me so frustrated that I went on a polishing hiatus until around 2011 and I discovered that polish makers actually COULD make polishes that dry in a reasonable time frame.

  10. I feel the same way about the term vintage when it comes to things I enjoyed in my teens. To me 10 years ago still seems like it should be the 90's HAHA! The is a great color but I agree about those dang brushstrokes needing to go. Why is it that some of the prettiest polishes have them. ugh
